The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reached a landmark decision regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy and future ICC events between India and Pakistan.
Due to ongoing political tensions, the ICC has agreed on a hybrid model for these matches. India’s fixtures in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan, will be played at neutral venues. In return, Pakistan’s matches in events hosted by India during the 2024-2027 cycle will also be held at neutral venues.
This agreement was reached after a resolution to ensure fairness in the face of current hostilities between the two nations. The neutral venue decision will apply to multiple ICC events, including the 2025 Men’s Champions Trophy, the 2025 Women’s One-Day World Cup in India, and the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
Additionally, Pakistan has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup as compensation for the financial loss due to these adjustments. The neutral venues for India-Pakistan matches will be proposed by the host boards and will need ICC approval.
This agreement also opens the door for a potential tri-nation T20 series involving India, Pakistan, and another Asian country, provided the series is held at a neutral venue.
